Who are trailers for?
As well as thinking about the hook or selling point of a film, the distributor will also be considering who the target audience for the film will be. This is defined as the specific largest group of people who will go and see the film. This affects the 'where' and 'how' of the marketing campaign- where to advertise and promote the film? and how to reach that defined target audience?
Each film will consider the selling points against an understanding of age, gender, lifestyles and activities of the audiences available-this is to inform the later decisions on how and where a film is promoted.
